Obiano inaugurates committee to resolve communal clashes

The Obiano led Anambra State Government has inaugurated a 14-man Standing Committee on the Resolution of Intra and Inter Communal Clashes in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration at the Government Lodge, Amawbia, Governor Willie Obiano charged the committee members to bring to bear their wealth of experience on the job.
Gov. Obiano while stating that the committee has the right to incorporate more people in its fold, said the aim of government inaugurating the Committee was to nip in the bud incessant crises between villages, traditional rulers and their Community President Generals, among others.
The Governor, who reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensure lasting peace in the state, enumerated the terms of reference of the Committee to include determination of the immediate and remote causes of disputes and disturbances within communities, identification of the major parties to disputes and their respective roles in the disputes, making recommendations to the state government on remedial measures to implement in order to address the clashes and reconcile the parties involved in the fracas.
Earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, noted that it had become common practice by government to anticipate problems before they arise and to fashion out ways of preventing or addressing them.
Professor Chukwulobelu said the decision by the present administration to set up the committee was reached during the state’s Security Council meeting.
He noted that the committee was made up of people drawn from different fields of endeavour including service commanders in the state.
In a remark, Chairman of the Committee and Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Sam Okaula, expressed gratitude to the government for giving the Committee members opportunity to serve the state and promised that they would discharge their duties with high sense of discipline and diligence.
