Obiano commissions ASUBEB building

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has commissioned a two storey building belonging to teachers in the state, under the umbrella of Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB).

The building which is situated at ASUBEB premises, Awka, Anambra State would house a library, procurement offices and many more.

Commissioning the project, Governor Obiano said the building would help solve some pressing challenges teachers were facing in the past.

The Governor disclosed that the welfare of teachers was paramount to his government, saying there was provision for workers promotion in the 2017 estimated budget presented to the State House of Assembly.

Governor Obiano noted that the workers would always tap from his administrative magnanimity and would receive allowances accrued to them, including a bag of rice before Christmas.

He commended the teachers’ productive to the students, stressing it had projected the state to global recognition as Anambra students take lead internal and external competitions.

The Commissioner for Education, Professor Kate Omenugha noted that the present administration’s completion of the multi purpose hall was in keeping faith with its earlier promise to complete and commission all projects started by the previous government.

Professor Omenugha said it was the target of government that Anambra becomes one of the three states in the country with the lowest literacy rate through ensuring that no child was left out of school in the area.

In his address, the Executive Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, (ASUBEB),Chief Nzemeka Olisah, said the teachers in the past had passed through various challenges such as lack of accommodation for training and retraining for effective capacity building among others things.

Mr Olisah maintained that those challenges gave rise to erecting of the building through strict supervision and monitoring as well as prudent and judicious spending.

He commended the support of Board Members in the course of piloting the affairs of ASUBEB, lifting it to enviable heights.
