Obaseki rejects congratulatory messages from Oshiomhole, Ize-Iyamu

*Says they are full of tricks

Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has faulted the congratulatory messages from the immediate past national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the party’s candidate in the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election in the state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Faulting the messages while addressing a large crowd of supporters at the Ring Road in Benin, Obaseki wondered why they simply sent the messages to him through the internet.

He noted that if the opposition leaders were really serious about their congratulatory messages, they would have printed them on their letter-headed papers, with their signatures on them, rather than posting it on the internet.

The event was organized to celebrate his victory at the Supreme Court last Friday.

According to him, “Edo will never fall for such cheap messages called congratulatory letter, they are not serious. Na today we do election, na today we win? They are full of tricks.

“The APC in Abuja is being run just like what they did in Edo when they were in power in Edo State.

There is problem in Nigeria. The country has money, but until we change our mindset that tax payers money must be used to work for the people and not for very few, we have to pray that what happened in Edo will not happen in Abuja.

“The only party that has the right people for the job is the Peoples Democratic Party, come 2023. Forward ever, backward never, Edo must move forward,” he said.

Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and Ize-Iyamu congratulated Obaseki on Monday over his victory at the Supreme Court.

Recall that Obaseki, who succeeded Oshiomhole as governor of Edo State, was disqualified from contesting for the governorship election ticket of the APC, under the watch of Oshiomhole as national chairman of the party.

The Supreme Court cleared Obaseki, noting that the appellants failed to prove that the governor forged his University of Ibadan degree certificate.

In the congratulatory letter he issued, Oshiomhole said he had put all that transpired between him and his estranged political godson behind him, describing their differences as “unfortunate”.

He wrote: “Congratulations on your victory at the Supreme Court, which has effectively laid to rest all matters arising from the last election.

“As I had repeatedly reminded you during our several meetings, our relationship has through the years developed beyond being friends to being brothers of different parents.

“Whatever happened is unfortunate and I believe God has a reason for everything. I have put all behind me and moved on.

“As I have consistently advised, please be magnanimous in victory. You are the Governor of all Edo people regardless of political leanings.

“Once again, congratulations Excellency! Please accept the renewed assurances of my very best wishes and high regards.”
