NYSC remains a pillar of devt, avenue of unity – Gov. Lawal
The Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal, has described the NYSC as one of the strongest instruments for promoting national unity, patriotism, and development.
The Governor made the remark on today, Friday during the Swearing-In Ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps Members held at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Universal Basic Education Centre, UBEC Training Centre, Gusau.
He noted that over the years, Corps Members have made notable impact in the State through their contributions in schools, health centres, and rural communities and expressed confidence that the new set would sustain and surpass the achievements of their predecessors.
Highlighting his administration’s reforms, the Governor represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Nasiru Galadima Kaura disclosed that remarkable strides have been made in the health and education sectors.
“Our goal is to rebuild a strong foundation for the future of Zamfara people by empowering young people with knowledge and skills. This is where your service (as corps members) becomes most important,” Governor Lawal told the Corps Members.
He further assured them of adequate welfare, safety, and uninterrupted state allowances, with additional incentives for those serving in critical sectors such as health and education.
Earlier in his address, the NYSC Zamfara State Coordinator, Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmed, lauded the Governor for his consistent support to the scheme, including feeding augmentation in camp and the restoration of state allowances for Corps Members.
The Coordinator reported that the new Corps Members, drawn from across Nigeria, had shown discipline and adaptability since arriving in camp.
He explained that during the three weeks exercise, they would be exposed to leadership training, national integration lectures, and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to prepare them for self-reliance after service.
The Chief Judge of Zamfara State, represented by Aishatu Jibrin administered the oath of allegiance on the new Corps Members.
The event was attended by government officials, security agencies, and other stakeholders.
