NYG: Okowa rewards Delta contingents

The Delta State Government has honoured the state’s contingent to the just concluded third National Youth Games (NYG) in Ilorin, Kwara State for performing creditably, with different awards.

The Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa at the weekend disclosed the goodwill of his administration towards the contingent. While delivering his Independence Day speech at Cenotaph, Asaba, Okowa noted that the goal was to encourage Delta youths to utilize the various opportunities created by the various sporting facilities distributed across the state for skills development and further enhance themselves to become very useful to the society and the nation in general.

He observed that Delta State had been winning the trophy of the National Youth Games consecutively since its inception in 2013, which implies high commitment on the part of the athletes and officials, hence the need to encourage them to do more.

The Governor, who received the trophy won by the state contingent in Ilorin, led by the Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, noted that his administration had approved the award for the 2016 Youth Games as well as the 2017 event which the Sports Commission would distribute to them.

The Sports Commission further disclosed that a gold medalist would go home with N100, 000.00, silver medalists would go home with N75, 000.00 each, while bronze medalists would go home with N50, 000.00 each.
