Nyako wants more power for Senate to dismiss erring appointees of President

The senator representing the Adamawa central zone was elected in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but left for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and obtained its ticket for the coming governorship election.
Nyako, who spoke to newsmen in Yola on the apparent helplessness of the Senate against ‘disobedient’ officials of the executive arm of government, said the rising cases of disrespect to the National Assembly by some government officials makes it necessary for the Senate to have punitive powers over such officials.
He said such officials were arrogant and constantly ignoring National Assembly summons to clarify issues on accountability.
“Officials being arrogant and disobedient to the National Assembly is weakening the legislative arm of government and something needs to be done to save it from getting weaker in the interest of democracy,” Nyako said, reiterating that, “We need powers to appoint and remove. Someone with power to approve appointments should also have powers to take away such appointments.”
