NUJ Raises Alarm Over Fake Journalists

The Kogi State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has raised an alarm over fake journalist in Idah, Ankpa, Ayangba and other parts of Igalaland.

In a statement on Wednesday, the union said that the fake journalists had been going around to extort unsuspecting members of the public, using the names of the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN), Liberty Television and other major national newspapers.

The statement signed by the Secretary of the council, Mr Momoh Jimoh, the fake journalists are always at functions in Igalaland, threatening the lives of genuine journalists.

It, therefore, warned the people of the senatorial district, especially politicians, to desist from dealing with this crop of fake journalists who had been doing a lot of damage to journalism and the image of the NUJ.

“There is no press corp or chapel of NUJ existing in Igalaland,” the statement reiterated.

It said that the names and particulars of those identified had been compiled and forwarded to security agencies for appropriate action.
