NUC Clamps down on Illegal Varsity in Oyo
The National University Commission (NUC) recently wielded its big stick on an illegally- operated university in Oyo State.
The university, named Borough College, London, was situated in Ighoho, Oke Ogun area of Oyo State. The clampdown was due to information given to the commission about the operations of the illegal institution of learning.
Leading the NUC team to the Ighoho campus of the institution was the commission’s chairman on illegal university, Prof. Adebisi Balogun, who said that the university had six faculties and 200 students already. Prof. Balogun also said that the school started its illegal operations in October, 2014.
His words “The illegal Institution was established in October, 2014 by one Prof. Ogunleye, though, the said school proprietor, Prof. Ogunleye had earlier written a formal letter to the NUC seeking to obtain form of establishment but he later failed to follow-up with the processes.”
Balogun urged parents to always do a thorough check on universities before enrolling their children to guard against both financial and time losses.
The Federal Government recently approved the establishment of additional nine universities across Nigeria, bringing the total number of privately-owned universities in the country to 50.
