NSHIP reduces mother/child mortality rate in Taraba

The Nigeria State Health Investment Project (NSHIP), since inception a year ago in Taraba State has contributed immensely in reducing the high rate of mother and child mortality in the State.
The State Coordinator, NSHIP, Dr. Ezekiel Ubanus made the disclosure while giving an overview of the project before journalists in Jalingo, the State capital.
Dr. Ubanus said, NSHIP’s contribution in reducing the menace was attributed to the commitment, accountability and transparency of its principal officers while delivering their health care services in the State.
The State Coordinator, who described NSHIP as a community based project restated that it operates under the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA).
He further described mother and child mortality rate as an unfortunate situation where both mother and child die during child birth.
“A mother must not die while giving birth, in fact, the menace has tremendously reduced in Ardo kola, the pilot LGA”, he said.
The Executive Secretary, SPHCDA, Alhaji Aminu Jauro Hassan said NSHIP was a product of PHCDA which also falls under the State Ministry of Health.
He stated further that NSHIP aims at delivering quality and affordable health care services to the people at the grass root.
Alhaji Hassan, who lauded Governor Darius Ishaku for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that led to the implementation of the project, revealed that it is presently operating at Ardo Kola as a pilot LGA.
“The services will soon take off in Jalingo and Takum till it gets to all the LGAs in the State”, he noted.
