NSE: Onyema pledges support to UNDP
The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has said of its commitment to support the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) sustainable goals initiatives.
The NSE’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Oscar Onyema gave the assurance, while commissioning the Maisandari Alamderi Model Nursery and Primary School donated to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) at Abuja Talakawa District of Maiduguri, Borno State.
Onyema said that the donation of the school, will support the actualization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which seeks to achieve inclusive and equitable quality education for all by 2030.
The Exchange had in 2016 launched its Adopt-A-School programme with the donation of a Learning and Development Centre to Oke-Odo Junior High School in Ikeja, Lagos State.
According to a statement made available to Daily Times, Onyema said, “As an organization, we will continue to do our best to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4, which seeks to achieve inclusive and equitable quality education for all by 2030.”
He said that the NSE is committed to the SDG #4 and also runs an Adopt-a-school initiative as well as several other financial literacy programs aimed at lifting sustainable Development goals of the UNDP 4.
NSE CEO said, “Looking forward, we plan to expand the scope of this project and hope that this school will be the first of man” even as he called on all listed companies to toe the line of enhancing the nation’s education system by adopting a school.
“We hope to use this occasion to call the attention of our eco-system- listed companies, capital market operators, investors, regulators and policy makers- to the plight of the IDPs; and encourage more meaningful and sustainable interventions by all.”
Onyema however commended the partners in the project for ensuring actualization of the school project. The facilitators were, the Borno State Government, SUBEB Chairman, Bridge International Academies, Oando Foundation, MTN Foundation, CSCS Plc and AXA Mansard Insurance.
