NSCDC to commence psychological test on personnel

To guide against occurrences of misbehavior by officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), its Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has directed the forensic psychology unit of the corps to work out a timetable for the security profiling and psychological test of all personnel.
The directive came as a result of the Gombe state incidence at the weekend, where an NSCDC officer’s vehicle ran into a procession of Boys Brigade members, killing nine persons with others suffered various degrees of injury.
In a statement signed on Wednesday in Abuja, by the Corps Spokesman, Okeh Emmanuel, said the NSCDC regretted the incidence and has also called for the psychological test of all personnel against future occurrences.
He noted that the corps will embark on a massive training and retraining programme for all personnel, irrespective of the cadre in line with global best practices.
The statement said the NSCDC boss in his condolence message to the family of the bereaved, the government of Gombe state and the Church members, regretted the incident and has asked the people to be calm while assuring that justice will prevail.
“The incident has no religious correlation and the personnel in question was not on official duty; it’s quite unfortunate as this is an act of God. Nonetheless, a delegation of senior officers from the headquarters led by Emmanuel Adeoye, the deputy commandant general in charge of crisis management has been sent to visit and pay condolences to the government of Gombe state, the Church and the bereaved families,” he said.
The commandant general warned personnel to be cautious in dealing with the public, adding that anyone found culpable will be held liable for whatever offence committed as the corps will not take responsibility for any indecent action from any of its personnel.
