NSCDC operative shot dead in Benin

An operative of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Rawlings Osagie, has been shot dead by gunmen in Benin City.
Late Rawlings, an Assistant head of Anti-vandalism unit of the Command, was shot dead on Monday at his residence shortly after he returned home from work. He was about to lock the gate when the gunmen fired shots at him.
A brother to the deceased, Mr. Aghatise Osagie, who confirmed the killing, told newsmen that late Rawlings was shot in the stomach by the gunmen.
Aghatise said his brother died before he was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital after spending some time at the Benin Central hospital.
He stated that a four-man gang laid siege at late Rawlings’ home and fired at him as he made to open the gate for his house at Ugbor area of Benin.
We went to Stella Obasanjo hospital, there was no doctor in duty. At the Benin Central hospital, there was no surgeon that night but before the call-in doctor could arrived, his breathing was no longer stable so we tried to take him to UBTH but he died on the way.
When contacted for comments, spokesman of the Edo Police Command, DSP. Moses Nkombe, said he was yet to be briefed on the killing of the NSCDC officer.
