NSCDC boss defends promotions, says it’s in line with public service rules

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, Thursday in Abuja ,defended the recent promotions carried out by the agency saying the Board is statutorily responsible for promotion, appointment and discipline hence it conducted the recent promotion examinations for the various services under the Ministry of Interior.

The commandant general who made the above disclosure through a press release signed by the CDSC Public Relations Officer, DCC Emmanuel Okeh, also maintained that the Corps only made available names of those qualified for the examination and provided the enabling environment and that the idea of selective promotion as speculated never occurred.

He said ‘’ Following the promotion examination conducted by the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prison Services Board (CDFIPB), last year for Personnel in these organizations, the promotion lists released last week Friday have created a lot of controversy in some quarters the Board its statutorily responsible for promotion, appointment and discipline, that is why they conducted the examination for the various services under the Ministry of Interior’’.

Gana further expressed shock and disappointment as some Senior Officers who stormed the Ministry of Interior to carry out partial protest on the promotion lists released by the Board., insisting it is wrong for Officers to storm the parent Ministry, as there are laid down procedures for them to express and channel their grievances.

The CG also maintained that before any staff reacts to issues, they should show proper understanding of the matter concerned since the examinations were conducted for Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Personnel at the same time and the promotion lists released simultaneously.

According to him, the Public Service Rule (PSR), was the parameter used to execute all that concerns the promotion exams noting that examination is only one aspect of the criteria; while vacancies and the application of quota system as a requirement by the Federal Character Commission its applied.

He stressed that the examination results released was for all the four services in interior and apart from the Corps, no other services stormed the Board to protest because they know the implication that promotion examination does not mean every personnel must be promoted at ones.

The NSCDC Boss further admonished that in line with the present Administration’s stance on stamping out corruption, that the Corps will not do anything contrary. He emphasized that his administration is not partial, as, ”we all are One Nigeria and we will remain so irrespective of religion and tribe”.
