BY TEMITOPE ADEBAYO

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has once again announced the temporary suspension of the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS), just under three months after a previous disruption.

Operations were halted on Tuesday, July 15, and Wednesday, July 16, 2025, following what the Corporation described as “unforeseen technical challenges.” The announcement was made via a statement posted on the NRC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday evening.

According to the statement, the suspension will last for 72 hours to allow engineers to address and resolve the underlying issues.

“The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) regrets to inform the general public and our esteemed passengers that the Warri-Itakpe Train Service has been cancelled and temporarily suspended due to unforeseen technical challenges,” the statement read in part.

“This suspension is necessary to enable our engineering team to carry out urgent repairs. We are working round the clock to restore full operations safely and promptly.”

The NRC expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and assured passengers that their safety and comfort remain a top priority. It also urged the public to monitor its official platforms for updates on service resumption.

It will be recalled that the Warri-Itakpe train service was similarly suspended on April 10, 2025, due to multiple engine failures, and services only resumed on April 30, 2025.
