NRC disinfects premises, facilities against COVID-19 pandemic

The Management of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) under the leadership of Engr Fidet Okhiria has embarked on extensive decontamination and disinfection of Railway facilities, office premises, workshops, station building and residences/quarters within the Railway Compound in Lagos.

In a statement over the weekend, Deputy Director, Research, Health, Safety and Environment, NRC, Oyekunle Oyewole, explained that the NRC Management has committed resources to proactively serve as part of organizational intervention and mitigation to deal with risk of exposure to Covid19.

According to him, Lagos State is the worst hit by COVID 19 in Nigeria from statistics available  till date, hence, the quick Intervention of the NRC Management, engaging services of environmental health professionals in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department of the Lagos Mainland Local Government in driving the process of active and targeted decontamination.

“This process is at the instance of the NRC Management and commitment backed by resources to facilitate the logistics, manpower, potent decontaminants and the entire project delivery.

“The process commenced today Saturday 18th April 2020 and it will continue till every place mapped is covered, and apart from quarters in Ebute Metta, the disinfection effort will cover quarters at Tejuosho, Rotimi, Mushin, Ikeja and Apapa”, he said.

He added that the NRC Management will continue to play her role as a responsible and proactive organization committed to Public Safety especially during this critical pandemic period in the life of our nation and of the world at large.

“NRC wishes every member of staff and other stakeholders within the Railway facilities safe stay at home”, he urged.

Commenting on this development, the Director Operations of the Corporation, Mr Niyi Alli, said NRC has commenced fumigation of its headquarters and the Lagos District with @Anti COVID 19 agents.

He, however, noted that the fumigation of wagons and coaches will be when they are to start operation.

“Other districts and Abuja will follow after Headquarters and Lagos District offices and quarters”, he explained.
