Nov. guber poll: 2000 PDP bigwigs defect to APGA

No fewer than 200 bigwigs in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their support to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the November 18 gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

The PDP faithful led by the member representing Orumba North and South in the House of Representatives, Chief Ben Nwankwo, defected to APGA during a mega APGA political rally at the field of St Augustine Primary School, Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area.

Also present at the event were former Governor, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife; former APGA governorship candidate in Abia, Dr. Alex Otti; former Health Minister, Dr. Tim Menakaya; former Deputy-Governor of the state, Emeka Sibeudu and former House of Representatives member, Dr. Okey Udeh among many others.

Declaring their support, Chief Nwankwo disclosed that his painstaking decision to join APGA was the structural administrative attitude of Obiano in developing massive economic corridor that would enhance socioeconomic boost.

“How can we abandon who is enriching the masses. How can we abandon who is doing roads and touching lives? Anambra deserves the best, and Obiano is the best for another four years.

“I came to add value to APGA and not to destroy it. Orumba North and South have collapsed their structures to one formidable party, which is APGA,” Nwankwo pointed out.

He promised to deliver Obiano in Orumba North and South for another four years.

The Chairman of the Governor’s Re-election Campaign Committee, Chief Victor Umeh, urged Ndi Anambra who participated in the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise to endeavour to collect their permanent voter’s cards to be able to vote in the upcoming election.

Former Governor, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, in his remarks, said with respect to what is happening in the country presently, Ndigbo need a party that they can call their own and APGA represents such identity.

A former APGA governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, noted that Ndi Anambra were lucky to have a Governor with ideas and vision and urged the people not to be deceived by the antics of those who do not have the interest of the people at heart.

Receiving the defectors, the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, said his administration had perfectly contributed to economic growth in the local government by intervening in their prolonged light issues which had crippled business activities in the areas.

“From the Memorandum of Understanding signed, 13 industries have already commenced production and it has added to the solution of employment creation in the state.

“Youths should register in different cooperatives and in their various local governments to enable us have a comprehensive database of unemployed youths, so as to benefit from any government largesse, “Governor advised.

The highlight of the event was the decoration of the lawmaker and his numerous supporters with APGA regalia.
