Notorious cultist rearrested in Lagos

The Lagos state police command has rearrested a 36-year-old an alleged notorious cult member, Ibrahim Balogun (aka jailbird) who has been responsible for many heinous crime in the state.

The suspect who is said to always have his way out of the prison was arrested while in a court premises by policemen for another offence.

Balogun who claim he hadn’t committed any crime to warrant his arrest said he had turned a new leaf, after many residents of Somolu and Bariga upon hearing his name would tremble and scamper for safety.

He said: “I am. A changed man and it is all thanks to my mother. Although, I used to be a cult member, but now, I have not being relating with my cult members again.”

“surprisingly last Tuesday I was in a magistrate court at Yaba for different charges I have committed before, when policemen came and arrest me.

“I am suffering from my past mistakes, because whenever anything happened in the community my colleagues who I had left in the cult group would lie to the policemen that I am their leader that was why they kept arresting me. They lied against me.”

The suspect told our correspondent that due to his release from prison the police prosecutor and investigation police officer in charge of his case have been arrested and detained.

“One of my friend identified simply as Asumon facilitated my release from prison with the assistance of one chief Judge. I don’t know how much my friend paid to get me out. I was only brought out of prison.”

Speaking on Balogun arrest, The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni said the suspect had a series of murdered cases occasioned by cultism.

He said: “The suspect belongs to the one of the major cult group in somolu and has many murdered case dangling on him in the court and for one reason or the other he always comes out of prison free because most of the witnesses are afraid to testify against him.”

Owoseni added: “when I interviewed him he told me some of his family members who have linked in the judiciary helped him out of the prison. In 2010 he was involved in two murdered case and spent about two years in prison.”

The CP said, we want to assure the public that with his arrest, they would be diligent investigation in order to make sure the laws take it course and leave the rest for the judiciary.
