Northern Governors’ wives tell royal fathers contribute to fight against drug abuse, early marriage

The Wives of the 19 Northern governors under the umbrella of Northern Governors wives Forum (NGWF) has solicited the support of Royal fathers in the region towards addressing the challenges of drug abuse/ addiction as well as early marriage among youths in the northern part of the country.
The appeal was made by newly elected Chairperson of the Forum, Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed, wife of Bauchi State Governor when she led the other northern governors’ wives on a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu at his palace in Bauchi on Tuesday.
Hajia Hadiza said that the purpose of the visit was seek the blessings of the traditional leaders in the state and brief the Emir on the activities of the forum.
“Women who are the pillars of the families in the northern part of Nigeria are facing numerous setbacks in the area of education, health and marriage, and we believe that by collaborating with the Royal fathers we would have fruitful results that will surmount the challenges confronting the women”.
“we are here today to seek your support and pay homage to our royal fathers because we believe that if you do not support us, we will not succeed in our quest to surmount the challenges in our region”, she said.
Hajia Hadiza added that, “We had series of meetings since the forum was established, held consultations with relevant stakeholders, organized workshops and trainings for members which we believe is geared towards uplifting the living standard of the people in the north, particularly women and children.”
During the courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, ten out of the 19 Northern Governors’ wives which include Niger, Zamfara, Kebbi, Borno, Gombe, Sokoto, Nasarawa, Kogi, Adamawa and Bauchi states took part in the courtesy visit.
While responding, the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu appraised the effort of the Northern Governors wives for identifying and seeking ways of tackling the challenges of rape, forced marriage and drug abuse among youths in the region, calling on them to support their husbands in discharging their responsibilities as Governors.
The Emir also appreciated the effort of the wife of Bauchi state Governor on her humanitarian efforts in the state which according to him has impacted positively in the lives of women and children.
