Northern coalition groups condemn quit notice, Biafra agitation

As tension heightens in Nigeria over agitation for ethnic nationalism and sovereignty , a group under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has condemned the quit notice issued by some northern youth groups to Igbo living in the North, and also the agitation for the creation of the Biafra Republic.

Chairman of CNG, Mallam Shettima Yerima, gave the condemnation in a town hall meeting organized by the group in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital aiming to sensitize members in north central zone.

Recall that the press conference was held on 3rd June in Kaduna asking all Igbo to quite the north was done out of frustration because of the utterances made by Kanu Nnamdi abusing the sensibility of our leaders, which undermined the unity of Nigeria.

According to him the action has exposed the whole fraud in the agitation championed by Kanu as saying, “we are not a violence group but against actions that threatens the unity of our country.”

He maintain that the letter that was written to the acting President by the group clearly gave details and stated our mission against what some people had reason.

“We have review the Kaduna declaration because in view of the fact that the Ohaneze, the south east governors have said they are not part of the agitation.”

“If the KANU is not arrested it is left for the federal government to take necessary action. We have played our role by stating our mind on the unity of Nigeria.

Shettima also stated that any person or group who wants to change his or her identity must follow the constitutional provisions and not to take laws into their hands.

He called on the youths to fight for the unity of the country in a non violent manner and not to allow themselves to be use by any person for fraudulent purposes.
