No society can grow without electricity – Gov. Ortom

By Kingsley Chukwuka

No society can grow industrially without adequate availability of power supply, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said.

Ortom said even God in his wisdom made light to shine out of darkness to illuminate the earth.

The Governor stated this on Thursday in Benue during the launch of the National Mass Metering Programme, powered by the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED).

Emphasising on the importance of light, Ortom urged the Management of JED to extend light to the industrial avenue of the State.

Responding, JED, through its Chairman Board of Directors, Alhaji Babangida Inuwa, commended the Governor for providing enabling environment for the company to operate in the State.

Inuwa said Ortom’s commitment to the company has earned the State 30,000 meters out of the 88,538 meters meant for four States.

“Out of the 88,538 meters that the company would be distributing under the National Mass Metering Programme in its franchise States of Gombe, Bauchi, Benue and Plateau, Benue State alone would be taking about 30,000 of the meters while the remaining three States would be sharing the balance of about 50,000”, he said.

Inuwa further disclosed that JED would also be injecting over one billion naira to the construction of some critical infrastructures, such as Steel Tower Structures across the River Benue to serve the North Bank area of Makurdi, building of 15MVA 33/11KV injection Substation besides the legislative quarters in Makurdi as well as
upgrading of 7.5MVA Transformer at the Benue Brewery injection Substation to 15MVA Transformer with all its associated switchgears, he said.
