President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, declaring that no community within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be left behind in the nation’s development agenda.

Speaking yesterday during the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network covering Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6 in the Federal Capital City, Abuja.

Tinubu said the water infrastructure represents a moral and technical milestone aimed at equity and sustainability for residents.

“This water infrastructure is not only a technical milestone but a moral one because it is about equity, it is about ensuring that no part of Abuja is left behind in our national development agenda,” the President said.

He described the project as transformative, noting that “Water is life, it is not a luxury, it is a basic human right and a foundation for public health, urban development and economic growth.”

President Tinubu praised the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and his team for their leadership and commitment to executing the project.

“Thank you, the team of Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for exhibiting a very great virtue of leadership. This virtue is when a leader is very conscious of the need of his people and he goes about, committed with dedication to do it. That’s what you have been exhibiting in FCT.”

While expressing his satisfaction with the project, Tinubu emphasized that it symbolizes his broader vision of national renewal.

“It is a renewal. When we speak of renewal, this is what we mean. A tangible, people-focused project that improves the daily lives of ordinary people here.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we are not here today merely to lay the pipes. We are laying the groundwork for healthier families, stronger communities and a more productive city.” He said

President Tinubu also acknowledged the contribution of international partners, especially China, to the successful completion of the project.

“Together we are showing the world that partnership built on mutual respect and shared prosperity can deliver real impact.”

In a moment of solemnity, Tinubu also expressed condolences to the people of Benue State over recent killings.

“I sympathize with those who have lost their lives. I will adjust my program and go see Benue people on Wednesday,” he said, calling for peace and harmony in the country.

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in his remarks, thanked the President for his support and guidance.

“Today is the fourth day of the commissioning program. We thank you so much, Mr. President, for the support and encouragement you are giving to us, who are representing you in the FCT.”

Wike revealed that the $470 million contract for the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network was first awarded in 2017 with 85 percent financing by the Chinese government and the remaining 15 percent by the federal government and FCT administration.

He also recalled the President’s personal involvement in reviving stalled infrastructure projects in the territory.

“You said, look, it’s not only road infrastructure, you want the train to work, and you want the water to be supplied to the city.”

Wike highlighted ongoing efforts to extend water supply to satellite towns like Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu through a new agreement signed during the President’s visit to China.

“So you are not only providing water to the city, you are also providing water to the satellite towns,” he stated.

He assured that the new rural water projects will be completed in less time than the current one, with commissioning targeted for the President’s third anniversary in office.

The FCT Minister also thanked the National Assembly for its legislative support and reiterated his team’s commitment to showcasing the administration’s achievements.

“Those who want to see, will see. Those who don’t want to see, it’s not your fault. Because they decided not to see,” he added.

The commissioning marks a significant step toward ensuring access to clean water for all residents of Abuja, aligning with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for equitable and inclusive national development.
