No Court Order Reinstated APC Chairmen, Councillors — Osun Govt
The Osun State Government has firmly debunked claims that a court order reinstated sacked Local Government chairmen and councillors belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Alimi, clarified that neither the Supreme Court nor the Court of Appeal has issued any direct executory order returning the former officials to office.
The government described the ongoing attempts by the former officials to reclaim council seats as a political maneuver to “smuggle power through the backdoor.”
“No Court ordered the reinstatement of APC’s illegal Local Government council administrators,” the statement read. “Contrary to APC propaganda, no court, including the Court of Appeal in its judgment of February 10, 2025, issued a direct, executory order reinstating any APC local government chairmen or councillors.”
The government expressed grave concern over actions it described as openly hostile to the welfare of the people, specifically warning against any moves to withhold or obstruct Local Government funds.
“Local Government funds are meant for teachers, health workers, market women, traditional institutions, sanitation, and community services, not for settling political scores. Anyone blocking these funds is openly declaring war on the Osun grassroots populace,” Alimi stated.
The commissioner further emphasized that local government autonomy should not be misinterpreted as an excuse for anarchy.
He warned that individuals cannot simply declare themselves in office or seize public spaces without lawful backing.
“Local government autonomy does not mean anarchy. It does not permit individuals to declare themselves in office, seize public spaces, or attempt to access public funds without lawful backing,” the statement added.
Responding to the opposition’s reliance on judicial outcomes, the government reiterated that elections would be conducted lawfully by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, rather than under “propaganda pressure.”
The statement concluded with a stern warning to those involved in the crisis: “Let it be on record that any attempt to frustrate Osun Local Governments, cripple grassroots development, or punish innocent citizens in the name of politics is noted by the people. The Osun electorate is watching, recording, and will respond decisively.”
This declaration comes amidst escalating tensions in the state, with the APC maintaining that its chairmen were legally reinstated by the Court of Appeal in February 2025, while the PDP-led administration insists their tenure remains invalid.
