Nnewi Catholic Bishop Advocates Attitudinal Change

The Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Rev. Hilary Okeke, has said that what the country needed now was a complete change of heart and a new mind-set so as to imbibe the service disposition of Jesus Christ, just as he welcomed the results of the last Saturday’s presidential election.
He urged Nigerians who aspire for positions of authority, whether at state level, church or group, to have a change of mentality. Making this known as part of his Easter message read to reporters, during a press conference at the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Okwuani, Nnewi, Okeke bemoaned the rising rate of evil in the society, despite constant intercessions of the church for the country.
Said he: “Deceit, falsehood, infamy, corruption, violence and threats of violence are increasing every day. The viral effects are there for everybody to see, a country blessed with human and material resources, but cannot provide and maintain basic amenities for the generality of the people. Those who have access to material resources exploit them for their own interests.”
While describing Easter celebration as a triumph of sacrifice and service over selfishness, self-interest and aggrandizement, which lead to exploitation of people, the priest called on all Nigerians to have a change of attitude and be patriotic in order to build a just society.
