NIPSS: Osinbajo charges participants to lead Nigeria out of security challenges

The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo, has charged participants in the National Institute For Policy And Strategic Studies (NIPSS), to proffer solution to the many challenges confronting the nation.

Osinbanjo stated this Monday, at the inauguration ceremony of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) No.39 2017, held at the institute in Jos.

The Acting President who was represented by the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, said that the mandate of the National Institute include conducting in-depth policy research into the social, economic, political, security, scientific, cultural and other problems facing the country.

The Vice President said that the APC government came into office with a promise to decisively deal with the challenges confronting the country especially in three broad areas of corruption, security and the economy.

His words, “I am glad to report that we have drastically curtailed the menace of Boko Haram in the North East and indeed commenced a robust conversation with stakeholders in the Niger Delta; yet, we cannot rest on our oars until the activities of terror organizations have been completely eradicated from our land.

“For some time now, we have been dealing with incessant herdsmen-farmers clashes as well as the issues of cattle rustling; the rising tide of crimes of armed robbery and kidnapping also confronts us.

“All these challenges and more will require in-depth analysis with a view to proffering practical policy recommendations to Government; we need fresh, creative and practical ideas in dealing with these challenges and we are looking up to you to contribute positively in this respect”, he said.

Earlier in his remark, the Acting Director-General NIPSS Mr. Jonathan M. Juma, said the course offers participants the opportunity to take Nigeria to greater height, where the expectations of citizens would be met, adding that there is room for us as a nation, to work assiduously with a view to being relevant, competitive and respected in the comity of nations.

The 2017 No.39 Course assembled 66 participants from different walks of National life with approved theme to research on Science Technology and Innovation For The Development Of Agriculture and Agro-Allied Industries.
