‘NIN data now in your hands’ — NIMC moves telcos to new secure verification platform
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it has completed the migration of all telecommunications companies in Nigeria to its upgraded identity verification platform known as NINAuth.
This development, according to the commission, represents a major leap in strengthening data security and giving Nigerians more control over their digital identities.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the commission described NINAuth as a robust identity authentication platform designed to offer seamless, secure, and real-time verification services.
“This achievement is a result of NIMC’s painstaking efforts to put the power to control NIN data in the hands of the holders,” the statement said.
“The NINAuth platform enhances data protection, gives control of personal data to the owners, offers seamless verification, and provides convenient sign-on access to services.”
NIMC said that with all telecoms firms now fully integrated into the system, subscribers can expect uninterrupted verification services across various use cases like SIM registration, SIM swap, and recovery.
Confirming the update, Lanre Yusuf, Director of IT/IDD at NIMC, noted that the commission had ensured smooth onboarding of all telecoms operators onto the new platform.
“The Commission wishes to assure the general public that the Verification and Authentication Service platforms are functional and accessible to all?” he said.
“However, any issue being experienced by NIN holders on new SIM registration, SIM swap, SIM migration, welcome back SIM, and others should be directed to the Telcos for immediate resolution.”
NIMC added that the launch of NINAuth signals its dedication to offering secure and user-friendly digital ID services as Nigeria deepens its identity infrastructure.
