NIMC to Begin Ward-Level NIN Enrollment Nationwide Feb 16

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced plans to commence nationwide ward-level enrollment for the National Identification Number (NIN) starting Monday, February 16, 2026.

The Commission said the initiative follows a presidential directive aimed at taking NIN registration to the grassroots to ensure that every Nigerian citizen and legal resident is captured in the National Identity Database.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, the exercise will cover both children and adults and will be conducted free of charge as part of the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda under President Bola Tinubu.

Adegoke explained that the ward level enrollment initiative is designed to promote inclusive governance, support national development, and enhance access to identity services across the country.

He noted that the exercise will also help decentralize registration services, improve accessibility, and reduce the burden of travel for Nigerians, particularly those in rural communities.

The Commission urged Nigerians and legal residents who are yet to obtain their NIN to take advantage of the opportunity and participate fully in the registration exercise.

NIMC further disclosed that it has begun engagement with key stakeholders at the national, state, and local government levels to ensure the success of the program through sensitization and awareness campaigns.

The Commission said consultations are ongoing with state governments, local government authorities, traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, and faith-based organizations to guarantee smooth and seamless registration across all wards.

Members of the public were encouraged to present their children, parents, wards, and other family members for enrollment within their respective communities during the exercise.

NIMC stated that ward enrollment schedules guiding the rotational movement of licensed front-end partners and its staff are available on its official website, www.nimc.gov.ng, while further inquiries and complaints can be directed to its toll free line on 080006164
