NIMC issues new guidelines for accessing NIN self-service portal

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued fresh guidelines for accessing the self-service modification portal of the National Identification Number (NIN).
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the commission said users must use the same browser and device initially used during registration to access their self-service account.
The account, it explained, is uniquely tied to that specific browser and device.
“To change one’s NIN record, applicants must log in using the same browser and device originally used to register the account,” the statement reads.
“Any attempt to use a different browser or device may result in access issues.”
NIMC also warned that clearing the browser cache could reset the session and potentially lock the user out of their account.
In such cases, an unlinking process would be required to restore access.
“Unlock Attempt Limit: Once your browser and device are locked, you are permitted a maximum of five (5) unlock attempt requests. Please be advised that no further requests will be processed after this limit is exceeded,” the commission added.
NIMC said the restrictions are part of its efforts to secure users’ identities and protect the integrity of the self-service modification portal.
The commission urged the public to strictly adhere to the guidelines to avoid disruptions, while reassuring users of its commitment to data protection and improved service delivery.
