Nigeria’s Dr. Adalikwu re-elected MOWCA Secretary General

Nigeria’s Dr. Paul Adalikwu has been re- elected elected Secretary-General of the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA) for another four years tenure.

He was elected a second time to lead the 25 member – nation regional body at the just concluded 19th General Assembly of the organisation in Banjul, The Gambia.

His election followed unanimous endorsement by delegates from member countries of MOWCA who lauded Adalikwu’s unprecedented achievements in office.

The Secretary General was commended for transforming the 50 year old organisation within the four years of his first tenure in office.

Dr. Adalikwu assured member countries of renewed commitment to uplift the organisation, by pursuing an agenda for cost effective and environmentally sustainable while promoting an African blue economy drive to achieve greater economic development and diversification.

He was unanimously elected for the first time on November 18, 2021, at the 16th Extra-Ordinary Session in Accra, Ghana with the mandate to focus on regional maritime safety and economic growth.

Upon assumption of office, he promised to revive MOWCA, increase maritime potential, and improve safety/security across 25 member nations.

He replaced Angola’s Alain Michel Luvambano. Dr. Adalikwu was formerly the Director of Maritime Safety and Security at Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Transportation.
