Nigerians in Diaspora donate N48m PPEs to PTF

To flatten the curve of the pandemic and protect the frontline workers, the Nigerian Diaspora COVID-19 Eradication Support Group and other groups abroad have mobilised funds to procure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth N48 million.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada, alongside the Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) , Abike Dabiri-Erewa, presented the items to the chairman and members of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Abuja.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Media, Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Gabriel Odu .

The minister acknowledged the contributions of Nigerians in Diaspora and urged them to continue to contribute towards the nation’s development and progress.

Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that every state is captured in the distribution of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for frontline medical and paramedical staff in all the teaching hospitals and federal medical centres across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Chairman Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Mr. Olusegun Adekunle, who received the 53, 036 items commended the wisdom of the Federal Government in establishing the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission for galvanising the donations.

Meanwhile the National Coordinator COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu said the donations will escalate areas of coverage, especially for frontline workers.

He urged more Nigerians to get involved in fighting the deadly pandemic that is still ravaging communities.

The complete set of PPEs, described as durable, reusable and of very high quality donated by the Nigerian Diaspora COVID-19 support group were all produced locally.

Osun records 2 COVID-19 deaths, 14 new cases

The Osun State government says it has recorded two coronavirus related deaths with 14 new cases in the state.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, made the disclosure in a statement in Osogbo on Sunday.

Isamotu said four patients have been discharged from the isolation and treatment centre in the state after they tested negative to the virus.

The commissioner said the new cases were discovered, following contact tracing of previous confirmed cases in the state.

He noted that with the new cases recorded, the number of confirmed cases in the state had risen to 165 with 95 active cases.

“With the latest development, the number of our active cases as at today is 95.

“We have 165 confirmed cases, out of which the state has successfully treated and discharged 63 patients while seven deaths have been recorded,” Isamotu said.

He appealed to residents of the state to always observe all the precautionary measures laid down by the state government against the spread of the virus.
