Nigerian Speakers conference moves to end PASAN strike

Following the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) over non-implementation of financial autonomy to state legislature and judiciary, the Chairman of Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman led other leaders of the Conference to a crucial meeting with the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum Dr. Fayemi Kayode in order to resolve the issues.
This was contained in a press release issued to journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday by the Spokesman of the Bauchi state Assembly speaker, Comrade Abdul Burra.
Speaking after the meeting which took place at the Ekiti State Government House, Ado Ekiti, the Chairman of the Speakers Conference, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman said that the meeting was part of efforts to resolve the issue of financial autonomy to state legislature and judiciary which led to the indefinite strike by the parliamentary staff.
According to him, they met Governor Fayemi being the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum so as to come up with measures to end the strike and get back the staff to work.
He assured that further engagements will continue in Abuja this week to finally resolve the matter.
Rt. Hon. Suleiman further explained that the meeting also discussed measures to further strengthen Executive – Legislative collaboration and mutual cooperation for the betterment of Nigerians through annual or biannual executive-legislative parley with a view to carrying alone the Legislature.
