Nigerian soldiers withdraw from border town after Boko Haram attack

Nigerian Army troops stationed at a border town in Borno State have withdrawn from their location after a Boko Haram attack on Monday evening, the army spokesman said in a statement.

Monday’s attack on Gashigar, on the border with Niger left thirteen soldiers wounded and an unknown number missing.

Army spokesman Col. Sani Usman said the attack was a “temporary setback” carried out by “remnants of Boko Haram” that forced the soldiers to ‘withdraw from the location’.

Usman said an operation was in progress to find the missing troops and “clear the Boko Haram terrorists at the general area.”
