Nigerian Navy partners Anambra on water transportation

The Nigerian Navy have concluded plans to partner with Anambra state to develop waterways so as to boost social economic activities in the state.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas made this known during his visit to the governor at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
Vice Admiral Ibas said the essence of the visit was to commission some of the facilities built by the Nigerian Navy, Anambra state command, at Odekpe, in Ogbaru local government area.
Some of the facilities commissioned were administrative blocks, armoury, officers accommodation, junior ratings accommodation, water treatment plant and many more.
Commissioning the projects at Odekpe, the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano said his administration had been working harmoniously with the Nigerian Navy in promoting security in the state.
Governor Obiano added that he had provided some working facilities such as 21 speed boats, naval gun boats, 8 floating ambulances and many more, which according to him would ensure adequate security and quick response to emergency situations.
The governor noted that the establishment of naval outpost in Ogbaru would attract development and assist the state government in its vision to building and chatting waterways as another means of transportation that would enhance exportation and economic activities in the state.
In his address, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok – Ete Ekwe Ibas said the Nigerian Navy would provide every facilities to ensure adequate chatting waters and jetty to provide alternative means of transportation for easy access to other neighboring states.
Chief Ibas pointed out that their Presence would among other things provide security and other infrastructural development that would project the state to limelight.
He commended the present administration for its support to the Nigerian Navy, saying the establishment of the naval post was through the efforts of the state and federal government.
The Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, Real Admiral Mohammed Garuba said the Commissioning of the projects would mark the beginning of development and projection of the state to global recognition.
In his words “the commissioning of the projects is part of the Chief of Naval Staff’s priorities towards the realisation of his strategic directive one and two of 2015 and 2016 respectively which are aimed at boosting Nigerian Navy operations and personnel efficiency. It will Mark the beginning of relocation of outpost from the temporary to permanent site for enhanced operational and personnel efficiency.”
The highlight was the commissioning of the projects.
