Nigerian legion to govs: Give us land for farming

The Nigeria Legion has asked state governors to allocate lands to the corps to enable it venture into farming as a means of empowering members.

The legion said such land would be used for agricultural purposes including agro -allied businesses, farming, fishing, poultry and other agric related businesses that would help them make ends means.

The legion’s national president, Brigadier General Jones Akpa (Rtd) made appeal while speaking with journalists during the passing out parade of batch ‘B’ cadets of the kwara state chapter of the Nigerian legion of ex-commissionaires and empowerment of widows of ex-servicemen held in Ilorin, kwara state capital .

He said so far, only five states of the federation have responded to the legion’s land request urging others to follow suit.

Akpa charged the new cadets to operate within the ambits of the law that establish them.

In his address, corps commander in Kwara state, Peter C. Raymond, said the legion which core mission is ‘‘service to the nation’’ will add value to the lives of its members and the ex-service men and families of deceased soldiers.

‘‘The corps of commissionaires at it is known provides efficient services in internal security, crime control and general surveillance. The corps works in tandem with other armed forces that is the Nigerian Army, the Air force and the Navy’’.

At the ceremony held at the state stadium complex Ilorin, widows of ex-service men were given empowerment tools ,cash donations and food items .
