Nigerian Army set to conduct ‘Exercise Crocodile Smile II’ in Lagos, Ogun
In line with the Nigerian Army’s Training Directive for the Year 2017, troops of 81 Division Nigerian Army, including its affiliated formations and units located within its Area of Responsibility (AOR) which covers Lagos and Ogun States will be participating in this year’s Exercise ‘Crocodile Smile II’ from October 7th – 28th, 2017.
According to a press statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, for the Division; Lieutenant Colonel Olaolu Daudu, the exercise is intended to sharpen troops’ skills on the procedures and conduct of Internal Security operations in aid of civil authorities, administration in the field, and logistics involved.
The statement reads, ” the exercise will avail troops the opportunity to sharpen their combat skills in the conduct of land based as well as joint riverine operations.
Additionally, the exercise will also feature humanitarian activities such as free medical outreach in some selected communities and the conduct of sanitation exercises by the troops for the benefit of their host communities.
“It is also expected that troops would be more proficient in equipment maintenance, reconnaissance, inter-service and inter-agency cooperation, as well as effective application of the Nigerian Army Code of Conduct and strict adherence to Rules of Engagement (ROE), during internal security operations or disaster management when called upon in aid of civil authorities.”
It was however stated that the exercise may transform into real operations to deal with emerging security challenges such as kidnappings, cultism, armed robbery, pipeline vandalism, and insurgency, among others within the Division’s area of responsibility.
The authorities of the 81 Division Nigerian Army also stated that the exercise is not targeted at any individual or group. Therefore Law abiding citizens are advised to go about their normal businesses without fear.
The Division stated that the dates and locations of the various humanitarian activities such as sanitation exercises and free medical interventions will be announced in due course.
The Division also called on members of the public to be at peace and not entertain any fears as they will witness increased movements of troops and equipment during the period.
Similarly the Division requested for the cooperation and support of all to ensure the success of the exercise which is aimed at making the Nigerian Army responsive to its Constitutional roles.
