Nigeria is set to partner with Canada in order to leverage on the latter’s advanced mining technology.
Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, who disclosed this while hosting the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Pasquale Salvaggio in his office in Abuja yesterday, assured that the collaboration will strengthen ongoing reforms in the nation’s mining sector.
The Minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the partnership, which he said will de-risk the mining environment, attract foreign direct investments, enhance capacity building for mining professionals, formalise and regulate artisanal mining and promote technology transfer to support the rapid development of the sector.
While highlighting on various investment incentives in Nigeria, Alake listed tax waivers on imported mining equipment, full reparations of profits after meeting statutory obligations such as taxes, and royalties, etc.
Responding, Canadian High Commissioner Salvaggio, thanked the minister for recognizing his country’s leadership in the global mining industry.
