Nigeria needs resource managers not ‘sharers’ – Peter Obi

Former Governor of Anambra state Peter Obi is asking Nigerians to end their complacency towards politics and governance in Nigeria, urging them to use their PVCs to actively vote out incompetent leaders in 2019 general elections.

Obi who expressed regret that the average Nigerian’s mindset about politics is about selling their votes during election for little stipends, added that the sharing of 5000 to citizens cannot empower the recipients and will not solve the poverty ranking, Nigeria currently tops.

Speaking on the theme ‘Taking Responsibility, Making Nigeria Great,’ at the ‘This Generation Conference, 2018,’ organised by the Summit Bible Church in Abuja on Saturday, Obi urged the citizens to vote only competent leaders into office in 2019.

He said installing the leaders with intellectual and vision is a responsibility of all everyone and that can be achieved only if Nigerians begin to hold their leaders accountable for promises made during campaigns.

“To make Nigeria great again we need resource creators and managers not resource sharers, and if a leader doesn’t perform up to expectations, please vote them out.

“We are not asking for 100% result, but 100% efforts and that includes all of us making the necessary sacrifices for the right results,” said Mr. Obi.

He emphasized on the down turn the education system in Nigeria is taking, stating that our country is not investing enough in education as it should, and is headed towards doom if this trend continues.

A consultant, Leke Alder, in his presentation said the nation should set up seven economic zones in different geo-political zones, noting that Nigeria needs to craft an economic model which must be driven with logical consistency.

He added that Christians need to change their mindset about participating in politics, because 90 percent of their prayer requests are due to bad policies in the country.

A former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka insisted on restoring fairness, openness and transparency to recruitment processes in agencies and parastatals, stressing that the nation cannot develop without it.

The conference convener and Pastor of Summit Bible Church, Dr. Andy Osakwe noted that the conference was to encourage righteousness in leadership adding that the youths by their sheer number, could change the leadership condition in the country.
