Nigeria Immigration Service rolls out contactless passport application system

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the next phase of its Contactless Passport Application system, set to roll out in Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland on February 7.

According to a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the roll out follows the successful launch of the system in Canada on November 5, 2024.

In the statement, the NIS emphasized that the initiative, led by Comptroller General Kemi Nandap, aims to enhance efficiency and convenience for Nigerians in the diaspora.

The digital application system allows eligible Nigerians to renew their passports remotely without visiting any passport centre for biometric enrollment.

Furthermore, the NIS noted that the Contactless Passport Application system is accessible via the “NIS Mobile” app, which is currently available for download on Google Play Store. This innovation is designed to streamline the passport renewal process, reduce long wait times, and improve overall service delivery.

“Following the successful roll-out of Contactless Passport application system in Canada on November 5, 2024, the Nigeria Immigration Service, under the leadership of its Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, wish to inform the General public, especially, Nigerians in the Diaspora that, it has concluded plans to implement next phase of the roll-out as scheduled below: Europe, United Kingdom and Ireland on February 7, 2025

“For emphasis, the Contactless Passport Application, which is currently available on google playstore (nis mobile), is designed to allow Nigerians to renew their passports without visiting any Passport Centre for biometric enrollment.

“The Service reiterates its commitment to innovative and efficient service delivery to Nigerians anywhere in the world.” The statement reads
