Nigeria, China deepen strategic ties, target new investment deals

Nigeria and China has moved to strengthen their strategic partnership as both countries opened fresh talks on new investment opportunities during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, in Abuja.
The discussion focused on deepening cooperation across key sectors while reviewing ongoing projects and assessing emerging global and regional issues that shape their bilateral ties.
Ambassador Yu praised Nigeria’s growing influence in West Africa and backed Tuggar’s concerns about how regional conflicts are often misrepresented, stating that China remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s security, stability, and sovereignty.
Both sides explored broader areas of collaboration, including industrial development, rare earth and critical mineral exploration, technology transfer, migration management, and capacity-building efforts.
They also examined China’s proposed “process solutions,” potential investment commitments, and openings for joint work in energy, manufacturing, and economic transformation.
Tuggar and Yu agreed that the bilateral agreements currently under review are central to unlocking these opportunities and stressed the need to fast-track them.
The meeting ended with a shared pledge to strengthen cooperation for the mutual benefit of citizens of both countries, with both sides reaffirming readiness to advance the next phase of Nigeria–China strategic engagement.
