Nigeria Army to boost combat proficiency, physical skills

The Nigerian Army is set to improve in its combat proficiency through physical skills aimed at boosting the proficiency of troops in combating insurgency.

The task will be achieved through the Nigerian Army Sports Festival (NAFEST) 2018, bid to hold from Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th November 2018 in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Speaking to Journalists through a press text made available to our correspondent on Monday, the Army spokesman, Colonel Kayode Ogunsaya, said the Army will also boost its organizational ability, endurance and promotion of spirit- de corps among the participating athletes.

He said, “In line with the Nigerian Army Training Directives for the year 2018, Headquarters 3 Division is scheduled to hold the 3 Division Inter- Brigade Nigerian Army Sports Festival (NAFEST) 2018, at 3 Division Physical Training Ground, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos.

“Participating formations and units for the competition are drawn from 3 Division Area of Responsibility: they include, 3 Division Garrison Jos, Headquarters 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi, Headquarters 43 Engineer Brigade Jos, Headquarters 53 signals Brigade and 82 Battalion Jos.

“The participating formations and units will compete in the following events: Combat Road Race (10 kilometres) and close half marathon (21 kilometres).

“This competition will afford the participating athletes to prepare properly for the forthcoming Nigerian Army Sports Festival 2018, which is slated to take place later in the year”, the statement reads in part.
