Niger to spend N1.5 billion on rehabilitation of Minna – Bida road

Niger state government says it will spend N1.5 billion on rehabilitation of Minna – Bida road in order to address the difficulties being encountered by road users.

The State Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe, stated this while enumerating the achievements of the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) – led administration of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello during a press briefing at the Government House, Minna on Tuesday.

He stated further that the road would be rehabilitated in two phases, adding that first phase would commence from Garatu – Minna, at the cost of N800million, while the second phase would commence from Garatu – Bida and would cost N750million.

He mentioned other state government’ s interventions on roads projects to include: Tegina township roads, Makera- Tegina- Birnin Gwari, federal highway, Minna- Suleja road which he pointed out was still under rehabilitation and bridges along Kontagora – Rijau road among others.

Balarabe explained that in zone A, the state government had rehabilitated 2.6 kilometers Agaie- Garachita road, construction of concrete and steel bridge along Guzachi road in Mokwa Local Government Area of the State.

He said that there was an ongoing construction of Badegi- Katcha road, dualization of Ndayako road which was 100 percent completed.

The Commissioner also disclosed said that in Zone B (Niger East Senatorial District of the state) that the present administration rehabilitated UK Bello-Sabon Gari road, 1.02 Lawu road, rehabilitation of Western Bye -pass and dualization of 2.5 kilomters old Airport road/ new market road which was inherited from the administration of former governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu.

He added further that 1.1 kilometer Kwangila- Makera road, has also been rehabilitated, as Four kilometers Fadupe road and Four kilometers Brighter School- Himma road as well as 1.4 kilometers road constructed inside Chanchaga waterworks.

He said that other projects of the present administration were construction of 600 meters Sarkin Bosso road, extension of two master drainages in Minna, the State capital.

Balarabe further highlighted that there was an ongoing maintenance of Tegina- Zungeru road and ongoing construction of Bonu-Gini road in Rijau Local Government of the state and the rehabilitation of Emir of Borgu palace.

The Commissioner, however, noted that some ongoing uncompleted initiated projects were captured in the 2018 budget which includes: Piggery road that was already under rehabilitation by the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator David Umaru.

He said that the state government has given approval to the senator to continue with the work.
