Niger set up task force on street begging ban

Irked by the non -compliance of the ban on street begging, the Niger state government has constituted a task force to ensure that the ban is total in all cities across the state.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Muhammad ldris disclosed this when he fielded questions from newsmen on the implementation of the ban on street begging in Minna.
The commissioner explained that the task force would ensure total eradication of street begging throughout the state.
According to him, the state government has already given a two- week grace to beggars in the state after the announcement of the ban on street begging.

Idris maintained that the ban is to sanitise and safeguard the state from becoming a dumping ground for beggars and guarantee total security of lives and properties of the citizens.
He however, said that the state government is not against the almajiri system of Islamic education, but is opposed to all forms of begging in whatever guise.
The commissioner stressed the need for those contemplating on begging in the state to have a rethink as anyone caught will be dealt with decisively to serve as deterrent to others.
