An eleven-man committee for each of the 25 local government areas of the Niger state has been set up by the state government for the statewide sale of assorted grains at a 50 per cent discount.
State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hajiya Binta Mamman, announced this while briefing journalists at the Government House in Minna.
The 11-man committee comprises the Member State Assembly, Commissioner, Special Adviser, Council Chairman, Permanent Secretary, representatives of traditional rulers, organized labour, religious leaders, leaders of councillors, and security agencies.
Some of the terms of reference of the committee are to determine the point of sale, the quantity to be sold per household, and the date for the sale, among other modalities.
The Committee is also to coordinate the sales to ensure a smooth and peaceful process across the State.

The commissioner said the terms of reference would be carried out in consideration of the peculiarities of each of the local government areas.
She said all Committee members are directed to move to their respective local government areas for necessary action.
The Commissioner also called on all residents of the state to remain calm while waiting for the announcement of the points of sale.
Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, had, in a town hall meeting with Stakeholders last Thursday at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference, Minna, announced the release of 1,000 trucks of assorted grains for sales at a 50 per cent discount to residents of the State to cushion the soaring prices of food items in the markets and economic hardships being faced by the people.
Meanwhile, the trucks, as at the weekend, were being dispatched to their respective destinations in parts of the State.
