NHIS will boost corps members’ morale – NYSC

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure has disclosed that the federal government has incorporated corps members in the National Health insurance scheme (NHIS).

The NYSC DG who revealed this at the opening ceremony of the 2018 NYSC Management Conference held Tuesday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, stated that the approval will go a long way to assist corps members among other health benefits

Kazaure said this year’s edition of the conference is unique as it coincides with the 45th anniversary of the scheme and need to evolve strategies that will enhance their operations and open new opportunities.

“Sustenance and improvement of the deployment of ICT solutions to enhance operational efficiency and distribution of wheelchairs to the physically challenged persons nationwide through the NYSC health initiative for rural dwellers intervention programme”.

Chairman of the NYSC board, Ambassador Fatima Balla Abubakar stated that the conference was a reminder of the present administrations quest to reposition the economy by opening new opportunities for the youths in Nigeria.

She said “in the course of our orientation tour, we noted with delight, the high level of dedication exhibited by members of staff towards the discharge of their duties. At the same time, we have noted with concern, the inability of some state governments to live up to their statutory responsibilities, especially in the area of provision of camp facilities”.

The director, planning, Research and statistics of NYSC, Mrs Bose Okakwu said the choice of Ondo State in hosting this year’s conference is informed by the unrelenting support, uncommon hospitality, and love the scheme enjoys from the government, stakeholders and the people of the state.

In his remarks, the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi akeredolu maintained that the main objective of the scheme has been the fostering of national unity and integration of the different ethnic groups in the country for accelerated development and progress of the nation.

Represented by his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, the governor commended the national youth service corps for their immense contribution to the achievements of democracy in Nigeria and urged the scheme to continue to do more towards protecting the nation’s democracy by ensuring credible leaders are elected into office.

He informed the gathering that his administration has introduced a package of cash prizes for the state honours award winners as a way of appreciating the contribution of Corp members that have contributed to the development of the state.

He also noted that quite a number of intervention projects have been carried out by his government in the NYSC permanent orientation camp and guaranteed the security and welfare of Corp members throughout their service year in the state.

The annual management conference with the theme ”NYSC at 45: Consolidating gains and creating opportunities ” brought together top managers of the scheme, state coordinators, directors and other critical stakeholders to review the Operations of the scheme for greater performance.
