NGO distributes 200 trees in Kaduna

Founder of Teku International Farm, an NGO, Mr. Ibrahim Salisu, has distributed over 200 varieties of economic trees to holy places to fight global warming in Kaduna State.

Salisu said this after the distribution of the trees in some churches and mosques in the state capital.

According to him, the aim is to sensitise the public on the importance of tree planting and support the fight against desertification, deforestation and global warming affecting all aspects of human life.

“We decided to distribute economic trees to holy places to create more awareness on the dangers of cutting down of trees without replacing it.

“Planting of trees in the right place, around buildings and homes can cut air-conditioning costs by up to 50 percent.

“Planting of trees in an environment is good as they are renewable, biodegradable and recyclable.

“Having trees around us are extremely important and have always been necessary for improving human lives.

“We are sharing trees to 10 mosques and 10 churches in Kaduna north and south, so as to educate the worshipers on the importance of tree planting.

“Effective campaign on the importance of tree planting in holy places will surely help in creating more awareness to the communities.

“The awareness will help the communities to contribute by protecting trees around the environment, so as to save our communities from consuming dirty air.

“Trees also help to cleanse the air by intercepting airborne particles, reducing heat, and absorbing such pollutants as carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide.

“Also Trees remove air pollution by lowering air temperature through respiration and by retaining particulates”

Pastor Titus Ishiyaku, of Church of Christ Evangelical on Life Intervention Mission, expressed appreciation for the gesture and called on Nigerians to plant more trees around homes, markets, garages and schools to protect the environment.

Ishiyaku said that trees purify the air people breathe and reduce water pollution.

Also responding, the leader of Izalatul Bidia Waikamatul Sunna in Chikun Local Government Area, Malam Abubakar Ahmed, while receiving the trees at Masallacin ‘Yan Tifa Sabon Tasha, lauded the organisation.

“We appreciate the organisation`s effort, we remain grateful for the trees provided to us and we are calling on the people to stop cutting down trees unnecessarily.

“We must join hands to fight desertification and deforestation in our society.”
