Ngige, Nwogbo, Umeh Bow-out as PDP Sweeps Anambra Central Senatorial, House of Reps Election

The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent Senator Representing Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, Sen. Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige has lost his re-election bid to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) standard flag-bearer, Hon. Mrs. Uche Ekwunife.

Hon. Ekwunife has pulled 101548 votes to outsmart her closest rival and National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, who garnered 77129 votes, even as Sen. Ngige of APC got only 20850 votes.

Announcing the result at exactly 5.30 AM today, the INEC Returning Officer, Dr. Pius Okoye, attested that the poll was free, fair and credible.

While collecting her victorious result sheet, Iyom Ekwunife described the outcome as an expression of people choice, and pledged to offer her constituency quality representation.

However, the party agents of APGA and APC, who refused to append their signatory on the election result report sheet, charged their teeming supporters to remain calm as they would take the matter up to the court of competent jurisdiction.

The APGA Party Agent, Chief Chikodi Anara, further accused the INEC RO of manufacturing the figures of the election in collaboration with PDP in order to favour Hon. Ekwunife.

In a related development, the result declared by the INEC Collation Officer for Awka North and South Federal House of Representative, Mr. Kenechukwu Agajelu showed that the Honourable Member Representing the federal constituency at National Assembly, Hon. Emeka Nwogbo of APC lost out to his PDP counterpart, Rt. Hon. Anayo Nnebe.

However, Rt. Hon. Nnebe of PDP emerged victorious with 22,762 votes; while the APGA candidate and Anambra State Former Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Godson Ezenagu came second with 22,130 votes; against Hon. Nwogbo of APC, who gathered only 5663 votes.
