Next president must be fair to all, Makarfi

The immediate past National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, on Wednesday said that Nigeria’s next President will be fair to all irrespective of religion, tribe and party differences.
Makarfi said the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari, has succeeded in dividing the country along religious, tribal and party lines, which spells doom for Nigeria.
Sen. Makarfi made this known in Jos, the Plateau State capital when he addressed the PDP executives and National delegates at the State Secretariat of PDP, where he made his intention to run for the Presidency known to the State exco, convincing the delegates to vote him as the next Party flag bearer to context the 2019 elections.
He said, “the country has never been this divided under the APC led administration; a credible Party must carry everyone along, because Nigeria does not belong to one tribe, religion or Party.
“Winning election is not about one individual, it is all about the PDP movement, it is all about the people; the PDP supported me when I was chairman caretaker committee and we were able to resuscitate PDP and the Party is seen by Nigerians and all over the world as an alternative government in waiting, and with that, if supported, as the Presidential candidate of the Party, I am absolutely sure that we will be able to return PDP to power come 2019”.
Makarfi also pointed insecurity as one major challenge faced by the country, saying that residents cannot travel from Kaduna to Jos without being harassed by kidnappers, armed bandits, etc.
He said his campaign which is anchored on unity would be driven by fairness, justice and equity where every geopolitical zone in the country would be carried along.
The former Governor said his government will end insecurity that has ravaged the country by not politicizing security matters that affects the citizens of Nigeria.
“We will not politicize security matter, it is a matter which affects everybody, one thing that this government has done is trying to politicize security: PDP government will not politicize security matter, we will work with everybody, we will work with traditional rulers, we will work with religious leaders, community leaders, it will be fairness, justice and equity for all without any kind of discrimination”, he said.
