New Malaysian Airline Orders 20 Bombardier Jets
As the restructuring of troubled national carrier Malaysian Airlines continues, Bombardier Aerospace announced that it had ratified a deal with a new Malaysian start up, flymojo, for 20 C Series -100s, valued at $1.47 billion.
A letter of intent was signed in the presence of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the country’s Prime Minister, giving the OEM its first customer in Southeast Asia. Privately owned flymojo will be a full service, quality airline model, operating out of Senai International Airport in Johor, near Singapore, from early 2016. Managing Director Janardhanan Gopala Krishnan said the company intends to focus on regional routes out of Senai, along with a second hub at Kota Kinabalu, with the aim of boosting tourism into Sabah and Sarawak.
Delivery dates have yet to be agreed but the agreement takes Bombardier orders and commitments on the C Series to 603. The aircraft made its first flight in September 2013.
