NECO results: Candidates record improved performance

The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of 2018 Senior School Certificate Examination SSCE with improved performance as candidates recorded 71 per cent level of pass.
In a statement signed by the Acting Registrar Abubakar Gana and made available to journalists in Abuja on Monday, the examination body announced that a total of 742,455 candidates of 1,032,729 who sat for the examinations passed with five credit and above including Mathematics and English language representing 71.48 per cent level of pass.
Gana said that a comparative analysis of candidates with five credits and above including Mathematics and English Language 2017 and 2018 shows 70.85 percent for 2017 and 71.48 percent for 2018, showing an increase of 0.63 percent in 2018.
He said, “939,733 candidates representing 90.47 percent scored five credits and above irrespective of English language and Mathematics”.
The analysis of the results showed further that 875,454 candidates scored credit and above in English Language representing 84.77 percent while in Mathematics 850,531 representing 82.34 percent scored with credit and above indicating that more students passed the Examination in English Language more than Mathematics.
The acting Registrar stated that an analysis of malpractice cases by subjects and types showed a general drop in candidates’ involvement in 2018.
The analysis showed that only 202 cases of bring in foreign materials to examinations hall was recorded representing 1 percent even there were no cases of leakage and mass cheating during the examination throughout the country.
