NDLEA Seize 2,090Kg Of drugs In Plateau

The Commandant, Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Plateau State, Dr Ngozi Madubuike, has decried the level of consumption of illicit drugs, saying that her command has seized over 2,090 kilogram of sophisticated Substance in Plateau State.

Lamenting the level of youth consumption of hard drugs, Madubuike said drug abuse is the mother of all crime in the country, adding that if reduced, other social vices being perpetrated in the society will drastically reduce.

Speaking at the Peace Architecture Dialogue, a monthly forum organized by Search For Common Ground, a non-governmental organization (NGO), the NDLEA boss said that the level of teenage involvement in consumption of illicit drugs is also alarming as the future remains bleak if nothing is down to arrest the ugly trend.

In cubing the menace, Madubuike, advocates for state law enactment against the trend, calling for the revitalization of illicit drug control committee in states adding that defaulters should be arrested and prosecuted.

she also added that the Media should lead the campaign in sensitizing youths against the dangers of drug abuse, as well as school proprietors, re-introducing drug clubs in secondary and tertiary institutions.

However, the project coordinator, Search For Common Ground, Mrs Emmanuel Rita Atsen, said that the need to engage civil society organisation in the fight against illicit drugs has become imperative as the menace is gadually ravaging the youths who are the future leaders.

She said if hard drugs are controlled, most communaul crisis will be put to rest.
