Ndidi has a tough decision to make

It is the fifth season since Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi left Belgian side Genk to join former Premier League champions Leicester City and his value has grown meteorically.

He will reach a new height this season when his team plays in the FA Cup final, against Chelsea but even as the Foxes prepare for the big game, the big question remains, where will Ndidi be playing next season.

Leicester City beat Southampton, through another Nigerian, Kelechi Iheanacho’s goal, to secure their place in the FA Cup final for the first time since 1969. The biggest concern for now at Leicester is bagging the cup and finishing in the top four in the Premier League.

The reason the club will be unconcerned about transfer talk surrounding the midfielder, basically is because he has a running contract. In 2019, he signed a six-year deal that would keep him at the team until 2024 so the club isn’t bothered, but the midfielder is.

He’s had a great season, though interrupted by injury. Leicester has been a better team with Ndidi in and the fact that he has been able to slot in central defence at times has further boosted his profile. He may not be able to achieve the high numbers in the previous seasons but he has done well in the 19 league matches he has managed.

In his first season at Leicester, he played 17 league matches but went on to clock33, 38 and 32 matches in seasons that followed. He is sure to start in the Thursday game as his team takes on West Bromwich Albion. With SportyTrader previewing top bookmakers with the best betting sign up offers in Nigeria, this game will definitely be among the most followed as Leicester seek points for their top four push as West Brom seek to put life in their relegation battle.

His eye for the killer pass and ability to combine this with great defending and offering the right balance in midfield make him one of the best in his position. Fine shows for the Foxes have seen him linked with Arsenal, who are seeking a strong midfield partner for Ghanaian Thomas Partey. Calls for him to move will definitely grow as the season draws to a close, and he will have to make a choice.

Former Nigerian international Seyi Olofinjana however feels the best place for Ndidi to grow is at Leicester City. His reason is that at Leicester, the 24-year old is trusted and gets the play time he needs.

Another former Nigerian internation Joseph Dosu, however, feels a move to Arsenal will be great for the player’s development. Dosu, a goalkeeper in his playing days, described him as workaholic and exceptional, saying that’s just what Arsenal needs at this point. Dosu feels with the qualities, Ndidi would not struggle at the London club.

Reports have also emerged that in a restructuring Juventus, talk of bringing Ndidi on board have been held while Manchester United are also listed among the teams considering snapping him up.

Whichever way all this develops, his manager at the club has already described Ndidi as an irreplaceable member of the team. If he will be able to hold on the player after the FA Cup final is a matter we all wait to see.
